Doris J. Thompson Park

Doris J. Thompson Park is a 20.8-acre community park located at 2000 N. 4th Avenue in Tucson’s Sugar Hill Neighborhood, offering diverse recreational amenities including Thompson Pool, playgrounds, sports facilities, and picnic areas managed by the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department. The park was renamed in January 2025 in honor of Doris J. Thompson, a respected community advocate and pillar of Tucson’s African American community who championed neighborhood revitalization and helped establish the original recreation center at the site. The park also features a community garden managed by Community Gardens of Tucson and serves as a vibrant gathering space for families and residents throughout the region.
